ABOUT THE YUNUS EMRE INSTITUTE

The Yunus Emre Institute is a non-profit organization that promotes Turkish culture and the Turkish language all over the world. With 60 cultural centers in over 50 countries worldwide, the Yunus Emre Institute is able to share Turkish culture with people from all around the world.

 

HOW TO ENTER

Any undergraduate or graduate student attending a University in the United States is eligible to enter the essay contest. If you would like to enter the contest, first decided which essay(s) you would like to enter. You can read more about each prompt on the Yunus Emre Institute in Washington, DC’s website. Participants are allowed to submit essays on multiple topics, however, only one essay per topic will be accepted from each applicant.

Participants will submit their essay(s) via email to washingtondc@yee.org.tr When submitting your essay via email to the Yunus Emre Institute, participants must attach their application form and a copy of their student ID.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Winners for each essay will be chosen by judges. Participants will be graded based on the 5 following criteria, independent of the views held by the judges.

  1. Originality
  2. Creativity
  3. Clarity
  4. Accuracy of grammar and spelling
  5. Strength of argument

 

RULES

  1. One entry per student, per contest
  2. Essays must be in English
  3. Essays must be submitted as a Word document
  4. Essays must be submitted by 11:59pm ET on May 1, 2018
  5. Minimum 1,500 words, maximum 2,500 words
  6. Essays must be double spaced
  7. Plagiarism results in immediate disqualification
  8. Must be submitted via email to washingtondc@yee.org.tr
  9. Participants will be notified of their results by June 1, 2018 via email
  10. Only one winner will be selected per essay topic
  11. Judges’ decisions are final
  12. Winners will receive an email regarding the prize money and must provide a mailing address and any other necessary information under the law to receive their prize
  13. Winners are solely responsible for any local, state, or federal taxes

 

PRIVACY STATEMENT

Upon submission of an entry, the entry becomes the property of the Yunus Emre Institute. By submitting an entry, entrants grant the Yunus Emre Institute the right to use their names, states and cities of residence, pictures, and likeness without compensation for the purpose of advertising and publicity of the Yunus Emre Institute and the Essay Contest in any and all media in the present and future.

The Yunus Emre Institute will not discriminate against entrants in any manner, including race, color, ethnicity, or nationality.
