The “Karagoz Everywhere” team, a part of the Turkish American Arts Society of New York (TAASNY), has carried its Karagoz-Hacivat shadow show to churches.

Within the framework of the cross-cultural access program and the sponsorship of the Yunus Emre Institute of Washington D.C., the show has taken the stage in Queens, New York at the New York Forest Hills Church and Maspeth United Methodist Church.

The Hacivat-Karagoz show met with the American community on many occasions from Times Square, public schools, mosques, and universities in the past three years. “Turkish arts gift to world civilization and the shadow show was adopted by UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009, and has had many opportunities to appeal to all ages groups to promote Turkey’s valuable art,” said Ibrahim Yazici.
