Turkish Cinema Night in Toronto
As part of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), which has been held in Toronto since 2012, the film “Sevda Mecburi İstikamet” (Love: Mandatory Destination) was screened in the Lavazza Inclucity program, showcasing international films on the big screen.
Organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Toronto, an open-air film screening was held in the city’s historic and touristic Distillery District.
Before the movie screening, short speeches were given by Can Yoldaş, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Toronto, and Bülent Üçpunar, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Toronto.
In his speech, Coordinator Bülent Üçpunar expressed his satisfaction with the successful collaboration with ICFF. Coordinator Üçpunar emphasized the global appeal of Turkish cinema and TV series, stating their intention to organize more events related to Turkish cinema in Canada.
Coordinator Üçpunar highlighted that the range of activities at Yunus Emre Institute in Toronto is expanding beyond Turkish language and traditional arts courses, with new events planned in various fields in the near future.
Before the movie screening, the audience enjoyed a selection of Turkish cuisine, including baklava and Turkish delight. In addition to the movie screening, the audience had the opportunity to taste Turkish delicacies, leaving the event highly satisfied.
As part of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, the Yunus Emre Institute in Toronto hosts an annual screening featuring exceptional works from the Turkish film industry.
The Film “Sevda Mecburi İstikamet”
“Sevda Mecburi İstikamet,” directed by Çağan Irmak, features performances by Selçuk Yöntem, Kubilay Aka, Selin Şekerci, Elif Ceren Balıkçı, and Günay Karacaoğlu.
Blending classical and contemporary Turkish cinema, the film chronicles the journey of a renowned actor who sets out with his autistic daughter to complete his unfinished story.
