Turkish Language Expands Across the African Continent

Yunus Emre Institute continues to promote Turkish language and culture across a vast geographic region, particularly through its activities as part of its expansion efforts in Africa.

The Institute continues its activities across various fields to share Türkiye’s cultural richness with Africa and to foster trust-based relationships on the continent. In this context, Burundi has become part of the Institute’s network of representative offices, where Turkish language teaching activities are organized in various parts of the continent.

First Turkish Course in Burundi

The first Turkish courses were initiated by the Institute’s representative office in Bujumbura, Burundi. Burundians, who aspire to study in Türkiye and visit the country, are showing significant interest in the Institute’s Turkish courses.

“It is gratifying to witness the strong interest in our Turkish courses organized for the first time in Bujumbura”

Dr. Aziz Tolga Koç, Deputy Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Bujumbura, remarked, “It is gratifying to witness the strong interest in our Turkish courses organized for the first time in Bujumbura.  Nearly one hundred participants enrolled in the courses we initiated during the summer. We anticipate that the number of participants in our courses will further increase with the programs planned for the new academic year at our representative office within the university.”

Koç further commented, “When we posted the announcement of our courses on our official social media accounts, we received hundreds of messages. Our participants include university students, academics, pharmacists, lawyers, and soldiers. In the upcoming period, we intend to enhance our Turkish language teaching activities by introducing special programs that highlight the cultural richness of Türkiye to the people of Burundi.”

Yunus Emre Institute continues to foster strong connections with Africans through Turkish courses and cultural interaction activities organized in its representative offices across various parts of the continent, particularly in North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
