Turkey has an extended history of being one of the major founders of the art of calligraphy. Within Turkish culture, there is a huge influence of seeing the art in all aspects of life, from small designs on plates at home to adornments in monumental buildings, Turkish calligraphy is a form of art that transcends throughout many countries. In this course, Murat Unver attempts to bridge the East and West through the lines of calligraphy.

What you'll find in this calligraphy & hand lettering class:

Calligraphy and graphic artist Murat Unver will be hosting a three-stage workshop at the Yunus Emre Institute located in Washington D.C. Each workshop includes 3 hours of instructions along with all the supplies needed for the class plus continued practice at home. Throughout the course, Murat will help students explore ideas for making pictures and symbol imagery that can be fitted together through letters and words. Through forming an artistic composition by drawing all around the Alphabetical Letters, this class is an adventure into a world of fanciful, colorful, and imaginative art through the form of letters. But more importantly, Murat will teach how to use calligraphy tools to cover basics in practice strokes and technique, as well as cover a full alphabet.
