Elective Turkish Courses

Through economic, political and cultural achievements in the last decade, Turkey has gained an important place both in its own region and the world,. This has led to a significant increase in demand for learning Turkish abroad. In order to meet these demands, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü  inaugurates Turkish Cultural Centres in countries with need on one hand, and contributes to efforts of offer Turkish language as an elective foreign language course in public schools one the other.

The efforts for Turkish to be included in official curricula as an elective foreign language course, are carried out under two main headings: forming curriculum, and preparation of Turkish textbooks as a foreign language aimed at the first and second level elementary education. The need for curriculum and teaching materials initially emerged in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After completion of curriculum and equipment development process, Turkish was offered as an elective or mandatory foreign language course in secondary schools in Amman, Constanta, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tbilisi, Batumi, Tokyo and Warsaw.

Within the context of "Elective Turkish Courses" project, major festivity and festivals are organized that bring together thousands of students as well as various activities aimed at students and teachers. Yunus Emre Enstitüsü that provides material and stationery support to students, offers various trainings particularly to contribute to professional development of teachers and organize cultural seminar programs.

In line with the intense interest in Turkish language around the world and increasing demand each day, necessary operations to offer Turkish in the secondary education are carried out and the efforts to offer Turkish as an elective foreign language course in universities have also yielded results.
